Shop Houses - Back - Arab Street Singapore

The back alley behind some of the colourful "shophouses" in Singapore's busy Arab Street. This was taken early on a Sunday morning, before the bustle.
There is a photo of the front of these shophouses
Note the "Sultan Mosque" in the distance.
As I will be leaving Singapore permanently soon, I want to share some of the sights.

Singapore

Singapore, originally uploaded by Christopher Chan.

Singapore was a fishing village sparsely populated by indigeneous Malays and Orang Lauts when it was colonized by the United Kingdom in 1819. It was occupied by the Japanese Empire during World War II, but reverted to British rule in 1945 and was later part of the merger which established Malaysia in 1963. (Wikipedia)

After decades of development, the CBD in Singapore has become an area with many tall office buildings. These buildings comprise the skyline along the coast of Marina Bay and Raffles Place. The three tallest buildings in Singapore, namely Republic Plaza, UOB Plaza One and OUB Centre, are all 280 metres in height due to building restrictions. (Wikipedia)

Approaching Singapore

Approaching Singapore, originally uploaded by Storm Crypt.

It was a sunny day... airport traffic at Singapore's Changi International Airport was clogged. The plane had to turn around a few times before finally making an approach on one of the runways. On one of those turns, the view was just spectacular.

On the foreground of this image are large cargo ships anchored a few kilometers off the coast. Slightly off the center(to the top of it), is Singapore's financial district and the Marina Bay. Near the top left is Singapore's seaport -- the world's busiest. To the left of it, cut off by the side of the frame is Singapore's resort island -- Sentosa.
